Independent artist Elle Evangelista takes up residence in our Darlinghurst Studio

"As a solo artist, it can be difficult to get space within Sydney. During the two weeks of my DAIR residency, I made my new solo work 30THIRTY at the RAD studios in Darlinghurst - in the most perfect studio. The studio had everything I needed and the RAD team made me feel so welcome and like I had truly moved into the studio. I am also a Darlinghurst local and I'm glad I could continue to contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of my neighbourhood in a local space. I will always be thankful for this time to make a work so deeply personal to me. " Elle Evangelista

Elle Evangelista is the latest recipient of an Ausdance NSW Dance Artist in Residence (DAIR) residency at our Darlinghurst studio at RAD Australia headquarters. The DAIR programme offers space to independent dance artists, collectives or companies and was launched in direct response to the ongoing challenges of access to affordable and appropriate spaces for the development of dance making and practice. DAIR activities may involve creative development, research, mentorship, rehearsal and remounting of work and applicants can apply for a residency of one or two weeks. RAD Australia has been hosting DAIR artists for the past three years.

RAD Australia National Director Rebbeca Taylor said

"RAD Australia is proud to partner with Ausdance NSW to support the DAIR residencies. It is vital that we work with the dance industry as a whole to contribute to building capacity in the sector, and to facilitate opportunities for choreographic practice development. The diversity of artists supported by the DAIR residencies is reflected in the range of artists we have hosted in our Darlinghurst studio, artists who have gone on to further develop and present their work for audiences."

Elle will now go on to perform her work 30THIRTY at The Flying Nun by Brand X on March 20 & 21 at 8pm. To purchase tickets head here.
