What drew you into a career as a dance teacher? Tell us a little about your journey.

I actually never planned on becoming a dance teacher. I was a visual art student at uni and picked up some casual ballet teaching work at a few local dance schools. It was through this work that I realised that I actually loved working with young people and teaching dance. Since finishing at uni, teaching ballet has become my main focus.

Why did you choose the RAD?

Having grown up working through the RAD exam syllabus from pre-primary through to Advanced 2, studying the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies to become an RAD teacher was an obvious choice. There is a really nice familiarity when teaching the RAD syllabus and it’s so engaging and valuable for students.

Tell us about a teaching career highlight to date.

It’s hard to pick – I  had the opportunity to stage a ballet production last year which was very fun. I also taught and prepared students for their RAD exams for the first time this year. But I love the little things, like laughing with my senior class or when a group of grade 1 students all wanted me to have their stickers, which was very touching considering the value of a sticker to a group of 7 year olds!
