Winners of the 2023 Betsy Sawers Awards

After a hiatus since 2019, the prestigious Betsy Sawers Awards made a triumphant return to the stage on the 9th and 10th of September at Canberra College. The event, adjudicated by the esteemed Melissa McCabe, featured captivating performances from exceptionally talented students hailing from Canberra and its surrounding areas.

Under the expert guidance of class teachers Samantha Leeman & Jasmine Durham and accompanied by Grant Kennedy, the students showcased their skills in the RAD Syllabus work. The return to the stage was a momentous occasion, symbolizing resilience, dedication, and the unwavering spirit of the dance community.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the final two Centenary Medals, special awards commemorating the 100th birthday of the Royal Academy of Dance. These medals added an extra layer of significance to an already unforgettable occasion.

The Betsy Sawers Awards attracted participation from numerous studios, and the support from family and friends, the event served as a testament to the thriving dance culture in Canberra and the surrounding regions.

The success of the awards wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the Regional Advisory Panel, whose invaluable support ensured the seamless execution of the event. Their behind-the-scenes efforts were instrumental in creating an event for the students to shine.
