 Vale Vivianne Sayers

Vivianne Sayers

It is with profound sadness that the Royal Academy of Dance Australia announces the passing of Vivianne Sayers, a cherished Life Member and Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance. Vivianne passed away on Thursday, June 27th 2024, leaving behind a legacy that has impacted the dance community in Australia and beyond.

Vivianne Sayers was a visionary in the world of dance education. Born in Estonia, she migrated to Australia during the war with her mother. Her early training at Borovansky in Melbourne laid the foundation for her distinguished career. In 1975, she founded the Sayers Dance Centre, which has been a beacon of excellence in dance education for nearly 50 years.

Vivianne co-founded the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) in 1981, now known as the Queensland Ballet Academy senior programme. Her dedication to dance education ensured that students could pursue their academic goals while receiving top-tier dance training. Vivianne's contributions to the QDSE Artistic Committee for 25 years exemplify her commitment to nurturing young talent.

Vivianne's influence extended far and wide. Under her leadership, the Sayers Dance Centre trained countless students, many of whom have gone on to join prestigious companies and schools worldwide. Her ethos of providing correct training from day one has been a guiding principle for the Centre, ensuring that every student received the best possible foundation in dance.

Vivianne's dedication to the Royal Academy of Dance and her choice to teach under its banner reflected her belief in the importance of high standards in dance education. Her passion for dance was matched by her generosity and compassion, touching the lives of thousands of students and their families.

Beyond her professional achievements, Vivianne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The Sayers Dance Centre, now led by her daughter Nadine, will continue to honour Vivianne's incredible legacy.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The Royal Academy of Dance Australia and the dance community, particularly in Queensland, will forever be grateful for Vivianne Sayers' contributions and her enduring impact.

For anyone wishing to attend the funeral to celebrate Ms. Sayers life, the service will be held at 11.00am on Wednesday 10th July at St Brigid's Church (78 Musgrave Rd, Redhill). All are welcome to attend to help celebrate Vivianne's wonderful life.
