 Vale Jacqueline Morland

Jacqueline Morland

It is with deep sadness that we advise of the passing of Jacqueline Morland, fondly known as Jacqui, an RAD Life Member and cherished member of our ballet community.

Jacquie had a distinguished career in ballet, beginning with her dance school in Rockhampton, which she operated for 20 years. Her dedication to her students saw many of them become teachers, open their own studios, or pursue professional dance careers both in Australia and internationally. After her time in Rockhampton, Jacquie moved to Brisbane, where she continued to share her passion through freelance teaching, choreography, and adjudication.

Jacquie’s commitment to the Royal Academy of Dance and the broader ballet community was exemplary. She served as Secretary for the RAD Regional Panel (Sth QLD) for many years and held similar roles with the Queensland Ballet Teacher’s Association and the Queensland Ballet Board. She was also an active member of the Queensland Ballet Friends Committee.

For over two decades, Jacquie organised RAD examinations in Queensland. In 1994, she became the first recipient of the RAD President’s Award in Australia, a testament to her outstanding dedication. In 2015, her contributions were further honoured when she was named Patron of the RAD Queensland Advisory Panel.

In recognition of her long-term commitment, Queensland premiere student event, The Jacqueline Morland Awards, were named in her honour in 1996, celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary in 2021. Jacquie’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of dancers and teachers.

Our thoughts are with her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Jacquie's passion, dedication, and kindness will be dearly missed by all in the ballet community.

For anyone wishing to attend the funeral to celebrate Ms. Morlands life, it will be held on Monday 10 June 2024 at 10:00am, at St John the Evangelist Anglican Church (171 Oxford Street, Bulimba) and afterwards in the St John’s church hall from 11.30am.
