The Royal Academy of Dance is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of teacher, examiner and RAD Fellow Annette Dirickx.

Annette's journey with the RAD has been an extensive one, beginning as a student and then attending the College of the Royal Academy of Dance in London, where she attained her Diploma and Licentiate qualifications .In 1999 she became a RAD Examiner, again training at the RAD Headquarters in London. Annette then spent the next 21 years dedicating herself in service to this position before retiring in 2020. Annette travelled the world on behalf of the Academy examining students with a calm professionalism and grace. Ever the Ambassador for the RAD, she ensured the examinations experience for thousands of dancers was a positive and uplifting one. In later years, Annette aided in new examiner training and mentored many new examiners along the way.

Annette was an exceptional individual who made invaluable contributions to the RAD and the wider dance community. Her dedication, expertise, and love for dance were evident in everything she did, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with her.

Her passion for dance education and commitment to promoting excellence inspired both her peers and the students she examined. Annette was well-respected and held in high esteem by her colleagues for her knowledge, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to upholding the standards of the RAD.

Beyond her professional achievements, Annette was a kind, warm-hearted, and compassionate person. Her humility and kind nature made her a joy to be around. She touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a model examiner throughout her time on the panel and dealt with her illness with  bravery and stoicism.

During this difficult time, we would like to take a moment to reflect on Annette's enormous contributions and remember the impact she had on the RAD and the wider dance community. We will strive to honour her memory.

On behalf of RAD Australia, we extend our deepest sympathies to Annette's family, and her friends and colleagues. May they find solace in the cherished memories shared with her, and may she rest in peace.
