Studios to open in Regional Victoria whilst Melbourne studios must continue to wait another week

Acting Premier of Victoria James Merlino announced on Wednesday 9 June a range of changes to restrictions following the latest COVID-19 outbreak in the state.

The updates applicable to the dance studio sector announced in hisdaily press conference are:

For regional Victoria from 11.59pm this Thursday 10 June

Indoor physical recreation & sport can reopen with the following restrictions:

  • Density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm
  • Maximum venue capacity 150, including no more than 50 indoors
  • Maximum group size: 10 people indoors, 20 outdoors

For Melbourne

Whilst Melbourne studios must at present remain closed, it was suggested during the press conference today that a careful further easing of restrictions will apply from next Thursday 17 June which would suggest a similar approach might be adopted as the above regional conditions.

RAD Australia encourages Victorian studio owners to investigate the Government’s Business Costs Assistance Program which will see a further $2,000 payment made available this week for eligible businesses. A total of $7,000 is now being offered through this scheme for the course of the 3 week disruption to business. Please note there are some eligibility parameters which we understand are making these payments difficult to access for sole traders and smaller businesses. RAD Australia is supporting our Peak Industry Body, Ausdance Victoria’s efforts to appeal this eligibility criteria.
