Original Australian music uncovered by MadeBy

Earlier this year RAD Australia launched a world-first composition to choreography competition in partnership with OneMusic Australia, MadeBy.

The three-stage initiative saw Australian composers and members of APRA AMCOS invited to submit a piece of original music that might be suitable to be interpreted for dance. The winner of that competition would then see their work released to the RAD Membership as the starting point for a choreographic competition which closes at the end of July.

Emma Greenhill was the winning composer selected with her evocative work Regrowth beating over 300 entries from around the country from composers aged 18-90 years old. Emma and our winning choreographer will go on to collaborate on a brand new commissioned work together supported by professional industry mentors later this year. The judging panel for the music competition included RAD Artistic Director Gerard Charles, Alice Topp Choreographic Mentor, and Cat Hope Composition Mentor. The panel were thrilled with the entries and shortlisted 15 exceptional works which we are delighted to share here as the inspiration for possible new collaborations and interpretation by dancers.
