Shortlisted piece La Malinconia

I call it La Malinconia as it is how I imagine melancholy would be in Italian … romantic, sentimental with mandolin, a “sweet sorrow”.  Like an old man remembering the embrace of a lover from his youth.

About Ruth Roshan

Ruth Roshan began learning the mandolin at the age of five, and has played professionally since she was a teenager, performing and touring with her ensembles, Nougat and Ruth Roshan & Tango Noir as well as mandolinist with orchestras including Orchestra Victoria, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and ANAM Orchestra.

She has written and recorded 3 albums of (loosely) tango inspired songs and instrumentals with her quintet, Ruth Roshan & Tango Noir. La Malinconia is a track on her third album, Stories of Love & Regret.

Most recently, Ruth has written a work for String Orchestra and Double Reeds, a “lullaby” with Boori Prior, a czardas with clarinet and as well as new works for her Tango Noir quintet.
