Shirley Treacy Awards 2024

We are thrilled to announce the 2024 Shirley Treacy Awards.

Held during August and September, in Mackay, Townsville, Cairns and Rockhampton, RAD students from these areas showcased their skills and experienced a new format of performance.

On Sunday 8 September, the Online Awards Presentation will be the culmination of all the semi-finals held in each of these cities. Our guest adjudicators Juliet Burnett and Mitch Rayner, both former dancers at The Australian Ballet, have assessed all the finalist performances from all cities, and have selected the prize recipients.

During the presentation all the finalist recordings from each city will be screened, and adjudicator Juliet Burnett will be live at the presentation, to announce the winners and other prize recipients.

Tickets to attend the Online Awards Presentation are only $10 per household and can be purchased here.

Semi-Finals

Registered students from each city will participate in an open class adjudicated by an experienced RAD examiner, who will select and announce the finalists after each open class.

Finalists then perform their chosen dance/variation as a solo that afternoon, including a contemporary solo by the Advanced levels, which will be filmed by the RAD. The finalist recordings from all cities will be sent securely to our guest Adjudicators at a later date who will select the overall prize recipients from each level. The recordings will also be shown/screened for attendees via our online Awards presentation on Sunday 8 September, where the winners and prize recipients will be announced.

This year, we are pleased to offer finalists an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, in a relaxed finalist presentation, after the official finals are recorded for the adjudicators. Finalists will stay at the venue and perform their chosen dance/variation again (and contemporary solo for advanced levels), with a small audience of parents, family, and teachers.  This relaxed finalist presentation is a great way to celebrate and acknowledge the finalists. It will run from 3pm to approx. 3:45pm, in each city.
