This two-day practical course will focus on the learning of Grade 8 female syllabi. Participants will also gain an understanding of learning activities that provide an embodied understanding of classical ballet, free movement and character sections. 


Aims and Content 

The aims of this course are to: 

  • look in depth at the philosophy of the Higher Grades and in particular Grade 8 (female) 
  • offer a chance to build on the knowledge and understanding of the technical, artistic and musical awareness gained from Grade 6 and Grade 7 female 
  • study in-depth technical, artistic and musical understanding for Grade 8 female 
  • gain in-depth understanding of ‘performance’, both as solo and duet as expected for Grade 8 female 
  • reflect on the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria 
  • provide a platform to discus, explore and develop strategies to strengthen the performance of the syllabi 
  • support the creation of development exercises for students by defining requisite skills and knowledge 
  • be able to understand the ‘how’ of teaching the syllabi, increase the knowledge of the assessment criteria and gain insight into candidates’ response to examinations 


Learning Outcomes 

On completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • demonstrate physically and/or through verbal explanation, an understanding of the technique/s and performance of Grade 8 female (classical, free movement and character) 
  • discuss the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria of Grade 8 female 
  • support students to develop the necessary strength and understanding to achieve the requirements of the assessment criteria in the examination
