DAIR Mitchell Christie announces the premiere of new work developed in our Darlinghurst studio

We are a proud partner of Ausdance NSW Dance Artist In Residence (DAIR) program which sees emerging artists supported in the development of new works, hosted by a series of partner venues.

We were excited to have Mitchell Christie and Sydney Experimental Arts Ensemble enjoy the use of our Darlinghurst studio in Sydney this month ahead of their premiere of an experimental dance-theatre work UH OH.

UH OH will enjoy a limited season from 2-6 August at the Old Fitz Theatre in Woolloomooloo. Presented by RedLine Productions, UH OH is featured in a Dance Double Bill alongside work by Ryuichi Fujimura. This is the first time contemporary dance has been presented at the iconic Old Fitz Theatre.

UH OH was created and directed by Mitchell Christie in collaboration with artists of Sydney Experimental Arts Ensemble (S.X.A.E). Featuring an original soundtrack composed by S.X.A.E’s in-house dj Mason Peronchik, this multidisciplinary dance-theatre work reveals the awkwardness of very normal human interactions and celebrates everyday absurdity. Deeply theatrical, wildly athletic and a little bit cheeky.

Not your regular dance show, UH OH celebrates the brilliance of human screw-ups and predicaments. Looking at how we navigate conflict with strangers, friends, and within ourselves. UH OH illuminates the habits we try to hide, revealing them in a devilishly perverse way. At what point is something so surreal it seems real again? UH OH asks this question with the physical body in a non-linear series of fantastical happenings.
