Celebrating NAIDOC Week 4-11 July

This week RAD Australia joins Australians in celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC originally stood for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee and this week takes that acronym as a means to encourage all Australians to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

As dancers we are continually inspired by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers who have long stepped before us and continue to move alongside us, which is why we can’t wait to watch the premiere of ‘Firestarter’ – the story of Bangarra Dance Theatre which premieres tonight on ABC TV and ABC iView.

Find out how you can participate in events around the country celebrating NAIDOC Week here. And download resources for teachers here.

This year’s theme Heal Country! – calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. Read more about the 2021 theme on the NAIDOC Week website here.
