And the winners of the 2022 Jacqueline Morland Awards in Brisbane are…

The 2022 Jacqueline Morland Awards had a wonderful air of celebration, as our community came together at St John’s Anglican College Auditorium. We’d like to congratulate all students who took part in the awards and thank their teachers for their preparation and their families and friends for their support.

Our sincere thanks to our Adjudicators RAD Vice President David McAllister AC and Vicki Attard who, besides presiding over our awards, also enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with one another having once danced together with The Australian Ballet. A special thank you and welcome to Anthea Morland who was able to attend during a visit home from the UK, on behalf of her mother Jacqueline Morland. Thanks too to our guest teacher Nicole Galea for taking the Semi Finals classes.

Over 400 audience members enjoyed a full day of performances from Grades 4, 5, Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 2 entrants. The audience was also entertained by four delightful performances in various genres thanks to our Dance Performance Groups who were expertly tutored in the weeks leading up to the competition by guest Choreographers Rebecca Jorgensen, Nina Green, Laura Wood, and Natalie Hammond. Thank you to our Dance Performance Groups sponsor PW Dancewear for the lovely costumes for these performances.

Besides performing RAD syllabus content and variations, our senior entrants at Advanced 1 and 2 were also given the chance to demonstrate their ability to learn and perform new choreography thanks to a beautiful piece by Commissioned Choreographer Shelley Moore.

The adjudicators were especially pleased with the high standard of performances, considering the many disruptions in the past year as a result of the ongoing pandemic and terrible weather events. Along with main prizes at each level, students were also awarded scholarships from Sydney Dance Company, Australian Ballet Academy, Queensland Ballet Academy and Academy of Music and Performing Arts, NSW.

We’d like to take a moment to acknowledge our 2022 National Student Activities Programme Sponsors, Harlequin, Bloch, Energetiks and Capezio, as well as our Jacqueline Morland Awards sponsors, donors and supporters, particularly the Patricia McDonald Foundation. We are so grateful for all your support in bringing together this fantastic event for our students. We are also grateful for the assistance of the Queensland Regional Advisory Panel and our many volunteers and support staff who helped the programme run smoothly.

We are delighted to announce our 2022 Jacqueline Morland Awards winners are…
